Going for the Gold
Every year, Beechwood High School has a homecoming football game, dance, and parade. The school's administration put a brief pause on the parade for a few years, but thankfully brought it back in 2013. The school and the people of Fort Mitchell love this event and were very happen when it was brought back. The senior class gets to pick out the theme, and the class of 2017 decided on an Olympic theme for this year's activities.
The parade is on Wednesday the 5th and the game is on Friday the 7th, with the dance directly following. In preparation for the parade, all four grade levels constructed a homecoming-themed float. The floats are then pulled in the parade for the Beechwood community to see. Also in the parade are the members of Homecoming Court in the backs of convertibles. Because of the Olympic theme, the court members were dressed in Greek-style togas with golden leaf headbands. The parade also consisted of multiple fall sports teams wearing their uniforms/red and white. These activities are a fun and exciting way for the school to have a friendly competition and show school spirit!

Another fun thing the school does is Spirit Days the week of Homecoming. The different dress-up days included pajama day, tacky tourist day, college logo day, preppy day, and Olympic day. Everyone in the school, K-12, has the privilege of being a part of these special days. The students and teachers enjoy this chance to put on funny outfits and get pumped for homecoming.

This year's football game was played against the Bellevue Tigers. Beechwood crushed Bellevue 55-13. Senior captain Lucas Benson was the leading scorer for the tigers with 12 points. Junior Elijah McKenney made a great play for Beechwood when he intercepted the ball in the third quarter. Garrett Ratliff, one of Beechwood's wide receiver, scored his first varsity touchdown in the first half of the game! The pep club's theme for the game and dance was Olympic sports uniforms. Some of the most popular costumes consisted of Olympic boxers, swimmers, and runners. The King and Queen, Dalton Everett and Leah Johnson, were announced at halftime. "It felt good to have my school vote me as king" said senior Dalton Everett, "I was kind of annoyed when I still had to play another half of football though." Leah Johnson, senior band member, was very excited to win. "I never thought I would win, and it was an exciting week filled with fun festivities."
